Make your Symbian Series 60 phone use your pc's internet connection via bluetooth

With this tutorial, you will earn how to make your Symbian Series 60 (WAP 2.0) phone use your pc's internet connection via bluetooth. The advantages of this are that when your phone is within bluetooth range of your computer, you will have FREE and UNLIMITED mobile internet!!

REQUIREMENTS

1) a Symbian Series 60 phone with WAP 2.0 (Nokia 6600 or 7610 *only* for now) 2) an Internet Router (LAN) 3) Patience! 4) Follow this tutorial in its order GIVEN because some parts can only be done before others and vice versa.

What to do on your phone

1) Download the latest Nokia PC Suite for your phone. For the 6600, it has its own PC Suite which you can find on Nokia.com. For the 7610, download its own PC Suite (whatever it is) from the 7610
2) In your PC Suite, make a new profile/access point/WAP Connection profile (called Access Point in your phone). In the new profile here are the settings that you should change. The rest don't touch.
Set the name to "Bt" (no quotation marks). The capitilization of the B is necessary.
3) The Data Bearer should be GSM Data/HSCSD
4) The Dial-up number must be something, but it can be anything except nothing (make sure you put something in the field)
5) The User name must be a user name on your computer when you log in.
6) The password is the password of your username that you entered for the username. If the username has no password, MAKE AND ACTIVATE ONE (it's mandatory for this) via Control Panel --> User Accounts.
7) Authentication: Normal
8) Use PPP Compression: YES
9) Use Login Script: YES
10) Login Script. This is why you are using PC Suite and not just entering this into your phone directly, the script is complicated. Copy this DIRECTLY and make sure it's IDENTICAL to this script in your profile:

Code:

CHARMAP [windows-1252]
LOOP 10
{
SEND "CLIENT"+<0x0d>
WAIT 3
{
"SERVER" OK
}
}
EXIT KErrNoAnswer$

OK:
EXIT

11) Save this new Remote Connection (Access point) to your phone via PC Suite.
12) Download gnubox.sis from http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/gnubox6600.SIS
13) Install gnubox into your phone.

You are ALMOST done with your phone settings :)... the last settings will have to be done AFTER the rest of these instructions.

What to do on your PC

1) Make sure you deactivate the Bluetooth COM Port that mRouter is using to connect to your phone. OR, just make sure that you stop Connection Manager from using your phone through bluetooth period- just uncheck bluetooth as a connection option there.
2) Go to Control Panel --> Phone and Modem Options --> Modems --> New. On the first page of the modem installation, CHECK "I will select from a list".
3) Choose "Communications cable between 2 Computers" from the "(Standard Modem Types)" list.
4) Select the COM Port to be the COM Port that your phone connects to via Bluetooth Serial Port.
5) Once you're done and brought back to your modems list, highlight the new modem, click "Properties", and make sure your modem is at the highest speed: 115200 bytes/second.
6) Now, go to Control Panel --> Network Connections. Select "Create a New Connection" from the left margin (it'll start up a wizard).
7) Choose "Set up an Advanced Connection", then "Next".
8) Choose "Accept incoming connections", then "Next".
9) Check the “Communications cable between two computers” modem that you creating, then "Next".
10) Select "Do not allow virtual private connections", then "Next".
11) Check the username that you select in your phone setup step 5, then click "Next".
12) Make sure all options are checked in the list, then highlight "Internet Protocall TCP/IP" and then click "Properties". Click "Specify TCP/IP Addresses" and input this range:
From: 10.0.2.2 To: 10.0.2.254. Now click OK, then Next, and then Finish the wizard. You will return to Network Connections.
13) If you have a connection called "Bluetooth Network" in Network Connections, right-click on it and click "Disable". It should be greyed out now.
14) Run cmd.exe which is found in Start Menu --> Programs/All Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt.
15) Enter these commands into cmd.exe after reading 15b.

Code:

netsh router ip nat install
netsh router ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME OR NETWORK BRIDGE NAME" full
netsh router ip nat add interface Internal private

15b) -Wait for cmd.exe to load that command and then let you enter a new command. Do the same for the all of the commands.
-Try entering every LAN connection name IN the quotation marks and including them in the command in Network Connections until cmd.exe actually executes the command. The name that I found out that I had to input was my network bridge name which is basically its title.
-Internal should be spelled in the language that your computer uses!!!!
16) Close cmd.exe and YOU ARE DONE CONFIGURING YOUR COMPUTER!!! CONGRATS. hehehe

BACK to your phone settings (you must only do this after configuring steps 1-13 in phone settings and all of the steps in the computer settings!!!)

14) Run gnubox.
15) In gnubox, go to Options --> 2box direct --> Bluetooth. Then, select your computer once Bluetooth searches and finds it.
16) Make sure your computer is on and working, you followed all of the steps shown IN THE ORDER THEY WERE GIVEN IN. Go into Web/Services --> Options --> Settings --> Default Access Point. Select your new access point/profile thingy which is "Bt".
17) FINISH !!! Simply go onto the internet on your phone now, and once you connect, your computer will make a Connection sound (it's kinda mystical-ish). You MAY get an error stating that your script is invalid, but then your phone will continue to try to connect and you will (it happened to me MANY times).

Installing Ngage Games on NOKIA 6600, 7610, 3650, 3660

There are 2 types of ngage games. 1 is in .blz format, the other is a folder wif man other files and folders. im going to talk about the .blz version 1st.
-------
.blz
-------
U need the .blz file, and blzinstaller.sis to install it.
1) install the blzinstaller.sis, into fone or mmc, doesn matter.
2) send the .blz file to ur fone. for tis example, im gonna use sonic.blz.
3) move the .blz to the root dir of e:, which is ur mmc. meaning, DUN place it in any folders, place it in e:, so it looks like tis
4) run blzinstaller to install, can take a while thou.

Note: if u send the .blz file to ur fone wifout using pc suite, it normally ends up in the inbox. For 6600 and 3650 users, space on c: is limited, so go to , , , set the mem in use to mmc.

and den, use a file explorer (example, fexplorer, seleq, etc), go to e:/system/mail/(1st folder), and find the .blz file, its in one of the 16 folders labelled 0-9, a-f. den cut, paste to e: root dir.

there u go! .blz version!
---------------------------------------------------
now, for the folder type of ngage games...
---------------------------------------------------

sometimes, when u get a ngage game from irc, it doesnt come in .blz format, but in a folder named . open it, it shld be another folder name . open it again, is a folder tts the game. for tis example, the folder name in system/app tt u downloaded is

for ngage users, simple as hell, paste fifa folder into e:/system/app folder of ur fone, using the supplies usb cable. if u cant see the system folder when u plug the usb cable, change the folder settings to reveal all folders.

for 3650 and 6600 users, it will b a bit troublesome. u haf to move the files 1 by 1, into the exact place on ur mmc. so, u haf to create a folder on ur e:/system/app, den copy the files to the exact same location, 1 by 1.

occasionally, u get another folder wif the system folder when u download the game. u haf to replace the 2 lib files in ur mmc. place them in e:/system/LIB. if theres no such folder, create one.

So thats about it!

Note: Want to do this? Go get a MMC reader. Its the easiest & quickest way to trasfer files.

Increase Font Size On Nokia E50

You’ll need a memory card and a file manager :

1. Open your file manager and navigate to Z:\resource\Fonts
2. Check the names of the files (these are the fonts that are actually used); they have extension .ttf and most likely they are nosnr60.ttf, nssb60.ttf, nstsb60.ttf and S60ZDIGI.ttf; write them down, you’ll need them later
3. On your memory card create a folder called resource and inside it a folder called Fonts
4. Copy the new fonts to the Fonts folder on your memory card (there are numerous fonts available on the internet for free; try a few of them, experiment and see which fits the best)
5. Rename them in the following order: – nosnr60.ttf regular (normal) font – nssb60.ttf bold font – nstsb60.ttf font for titles
Note: if your font files have different names rename them accordingly. Font names on your memory card must match those on phone memory in Z:\resource\Fonts.
6. Reboot the phone

If you want to switch back to the default font simply erase the whole resource folder from your memory card. If you take your memory card out of the phone the default font will be used.

Bluetooth Connection Guide 2

Manually make a serial connection to the Series 60 Handset to get the mRouter connection started:

1. To get a connection working you need one last step - you need to connect to the 7650's Bluetooh Serial port from the PC.

2.Right Click on the Bluetooth TM Icon in the system tray, on the menu that appears go to Services and then click on Bluetooth TM Serial Port. Select Find Devices from the sub menu. (A shortcut to this connection will be created so next time you will have the 7650 listed in Bluetooh Serial Port submenu to save the next step).

3. Select the 7650 from list and click Connect.

4. A window will appear telling you the connection is starting.

5. If you have not set the 7650 to automatically authorize a connection from this computer be ready to accept the connection request on the phone. If you have set it to automatically authorize then you won't be asked.

6. You should also see the Bluetooth icon on the 7650 start to flash showing a connection take place. Then you may get an error on the PC saying it can't connect and/or a message saying there is a Connection on COM0 (you can check the box to stop this appearing again), you can just ignore these message(s) for a minute. (Click OK once the mRouter connection is made described below.)

A couple of seconds later the mRouter icon in the tray shows a connection in starting and then a connection being made. You can see also the active connection in the mRouter Connection Properties. The PC Suite application should then be ready for use.

Bluetooth Connection Guide 1

This is a "How To" for Connecting the Nokia Series 60 device (Nokia 7650, 6600, 3650, 3660 etc...) via Bluetooth TM with the Windows Widcomm software used by TDK, Billington, MSI and others Bluetooth USB Vendors. The guide was created with the 7650 hadset but the steps are similar for other Series 60 devices and have been checked with the 3650 and 6600.

1. Pairing the computer and the Series 60 Handset
Pairing is the process of swapping pass keys and setting up a trusted connection between the Bluetooth USB adapter / card connected to the PC and the 7650 handset. Save any files and close any applications you may have been working on.

2. Set up Bluetooth TM on the 7650 by going to the Main Menu, selecting Connect and then Bluetooth.

3. Make sure the Bluetooth option is On and My Phone's Visibility is Shown to all. Remember what is in My Bluetooth Name - or edit it to one of your choice - this is what your 7650 will be seen as by other Bluetooth TM devices.

4. Right Click on the Bluetooth Icon in the system tray, on the menu that appears go to Setup and then click on Security.

5. A window appears and all being well the right hand pane will have your 7650 (titled what ever you have entered into the phone's My Bluetooth Name entry). If nothing appears click Refresh and your phone should then appear. Highlight the 7650 and click Execute Pairing.

6. A window will pop up asking for a PassKey. Enter in a numeric only passkey and click OK.

7. On the 7650 a screen pops up asking you to enter a passkey - key in the same number you just typed into the PC.

8. By default any connections from your PC to the 7650 must be manually accepted on the 7650. You have an option to set up a connection from the PC to your 7650 as authorized, this means when you connect from the PC to the phone it won't ask you if it's ok and will connect automatically.

9. To set it as automatic: On the 7650 in the Bluetooth TM Setting Screen, you joystick right to the Paired Devices screen, highlight the Computer you just paired with and press Options, select Set as Authorized and Yes. You will then see a padlock icon beside the paired device - this device will no longer require manual authorization for connections to the 7650.

Now you should set My phone's visibility to Hidden - so that unknown devices searching won't see your phone. You can still be connected to by any paired devices. Remember to switch it to Visible if you want to pair with a new device or receive a file / business card from someone with an unpaired device.

Advanced Device Locks is a Symbian OS application for locking the phone or selected applications only, such as Messages, Pictures, Contacts, Video or any other. With Advanced Device Locks you can secure your phone by locking it up with a secret code up to 7 characters long.

Advanced Device Locks allows you to lock your phone automatically by choosing one of the following options:

Always - each time the phone is turned on, it asks for the unlock code.

12 tips before you buy Nokia N95

  1. Physical attributes: It is wider than say Nokia N73 and you would think it would be heavier because all those extra features crammed into the phone. It feels surprisingly lighter, and fits in your palm nicely, despite its rectangular, digital camera type design.
  2. Screen: The 240 x 320 pixels, 2.6 inch screen is bright and big, and in horizontal format, it can be used to watch video clips, or type out quick memos using the bundled Quick Office and a Nokia Wireless keyboard. The generous screen size is good for catching up on MLB scores, keeping tabs on GigaOM and checking out Digg.
  3. Voice: If your primary concern is voice quality, the quad band phone gets very enthusiastic thumbs up from me, and it manages to pick up signals even in elevators.
  4. Dialpad: The dial-pad is wide and evenly spaced and feels comfortable when thumbing out those text messages.
  5. Navigation & Media Key: The navigation keypad is also pretty easy to use and is clutter free, though “accept call” and “end call” keys are small. The Media key is finally doing what it says, and opens up a lush interface, which basically lets you navigate through most of the important apps – music player, FM radio, photo gallery and so on.
  6. Camera: If you like taking a lot of photos, and don’t want to carry a separate digital camera, then the point-and-shoot features of N95 should suffice. The Carl Zeiss brand doesn’t really mean anything to me – I go by how the photos look to my naked eye. I find the quality of photos stunning. Camera is simple to use, and the built in Lifeblog software can get the photos to your Flickr account in a jiffy.
  7. Video Recorder and Video Playback: I have been using Nokia N73 to do video interviews with Silicon Valley executives, and found that it sufficed my needs. The N95 however is a 2X improvement in video quality with better audio-pick up as well. Nokia has been smart in keeping the user interface consistent so there are no new tricks to learn. The videos can be played-back on a regular television via a special cable that comes bundled in the box, and the quality of video is adequate, considering the source.
  8. Music Player: This is the single best feature of Nokia N95. The sound quality is stable, smooth and not too loud, yet rich at the same time. Being one of those few who has tried I can safely say that Nokia N95 is their best music phone. Ever! The big reason for that is the standard headphone jack, which allows me to plug in any one of my Ultimate Ears or Shure headphones/ear plugs. I simply hated the dongle-to-earphone hook-up. With this new standard audio jack, I can plug the headphones right into the phone. When combined with the wired remote, my Shure SE 310 headphones have a new friend, one that would make me leave the iPod nano at home. The 2GB microSD card holds most of my current favorites, though I had to go through the burn-rip-load process. I will dig into the musical options of N95 later.
  9. WiFi and Networking: N95 is one of the most connected devices on the market at present. It has the usual laundry list of connectivity options including Bluetooth and infrared. While the HSDPA 3G options are pretty much useless to those of us in the US, we can certainly appreciate the mini USB connector (what took Nokia so long to finally support this?) that makes transferring files from your computer to the device a breeze, especially on a Mac.WiFi is where N95 shines, thanks in part to new software applications that Nokia is bundling with the phone. The home screen of the phone has a WiFi scan option that allows you to easily find and connect to WiFi networks. No mucking around with the connectivity menu and getting the WiFi to to work. Full marks to Nokia for getting this right.
  10. Internet Telephony: I loved the VoIP calling features of N80i, even if I didn’t care for the phone itself. I am glad that the native VoIP support is built into this device. While I have not been able to make it work with my Asterisk set-up just yet, the Truphone app is ready to go on this device.I got the SIPphone to work as well, by simply copying the set-up from Nokia N80i. My Gizmo account is working, so I guess this feature is getting my personal blessing.
  11. Battery Life: If you are looking for a reason to not spend $750 on a phone, well here is a good reason. The battery on this device simply sucks. It doesn’t even last the whole day, and that is when you are using it in GSM mode, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS turned off. Nokia needs to fix this as quickly as possible otherwise, N95 could become a PR nightmare for them.Even light email usage and web surfing starts sucking N95’s battery like Nick Nolte hitting the sauce. If you still insist on buying this phone, then buy a few extra chargers and have them littered around your house, office and car.No Mail 4 Exchange support: And lastly, what I really hate most about this phone is the terrible email support. I don’t care for Nokia’s internal email client. On my N73, E61 and E70, the Mail 4 Exchange software works flawlessly, syncing over the air with our company Zimbra server. No such luck with N95.You can install the older version of Mail 4 Exchange client, which can sync your contacts, calendars and email, but when you try and open the email, you get an error message: Feature not supported. Other push email clients like Seven’s AlwaysOnEmail client doesn’t work either with this latest version of Symbian S60 operating system.Your best option right now is RoadSync by Dataviz, but it is going to set you back by about $99. But hey if you are going to spend $750 on a phone, what’s another $99.
  12. Bottomline: Despite all those fancy features, lack of Mail 4 Exchange support and terrible battery life are reasons enough for me to stay away from this so-called Multimedia Computer. A 2 GB micro SD card, $99 for RoadSync, a couple of extra batteries and chargers – you are looking at $1000 in total spend. A four-figure phone…. That’s too much for a gadget freak like me.

Enhanced Full Rate will give you much better sound quality when you enable it. The new Enhanced Full Rate CODEC adopted by GSM uses the ASELP (AlgebraicCode Excitation Linear Prediction) compression technology. This technology allows for much great voice quality in the same number of bits as the older Full Rate CODEC. The older technology was called LPC-RPE (Linear Prediction Coding with Regular Pulse Excitation). Both operate at 13 kilobits.(but you take up more space on the network, so they can charge you more) - Talk-time is reduced with about 5%

Half Rate will give you bad soundquality, which gives the serviceprovider the opportunity to have more calls on the network, and you might get a lower charge from them. - Will give you 30% longer talk-time.

Sim Clock Stop : *#746025625# apparently only works for 3 minuts.

Nokia E90 - Tips for safe use

Your E90 speaks for itself

The Voice aid application reads text on the screen, allowing you to use the basic functions of your device without looking at the display. Select Menu > Tools > Voice aid.

Where did I see that?

With Search, you can search for information in your contacts, notes, calendar appointments, to-do notes, email messages, multimedia messages, and text messages. Select Menu > Office > Search. You can use wildcards (? and *) in your search.

What if your E90 gets lost?

It is good practice to have a backup of your device content in case it is lost, broken or stolen. To back up to a memory card, select Menu > Tools > Memory > Options > Back up phone memory, or use Nokia PC Suite to back up data on a compatible computer.

Free up some memory

To ensure that you have always enough available memory, delete or transfer data regularly to a memory card or computer.

Help is at hand

To read instructions for the current view of the open application, select Options > Help. To browse the help topics and conduct searches, select Menu > Help > Help.

Upgrade your Nokia N73 to have native Bluetooth Music (A2DP)

Basically you will need to change your N73’s product code and flash the new firmware to get the new exciting features!

Only firmware 4.07xx.x.x.x supports the new A2DP and the following updates (though it’s these are yet to be officially )

* New Music Player (same as in N73 Music edition)
* Camera improvements
* FOTA (Firmware updates Over The Air)

and so far only Product Code - 0529835 has the new firmware.

You can use the Nokia Software Updated Availability link to see if your own product code is updated (I’m guessing Nokia will roll this out slowly to the rest of the world)

Step 1 : Change product code on Nokia’s N73
——

You need the following softwares ;

1. NSS (Nemesis Service Suite) - to change the product code [Get it from http://bphreaks.brinkster.net/files/NSS/NSS103812.zip] - UPDATED

2. GSM-Magic - to help enable features on NSS [Get it from GSM Magic Program]

3. Nokia Software Update - Nokia’s own program to download the firmware and flash your mobile phone [It should come with the latest PC Suite, otherwise -Get it from http://www.nokia.com/A4176089 ]

- Instructions -

1) Connect your phone to computer, and choose PC-Suite mode in your mobile
2) Start NSS
3) Push “Scan for new device”
4) Go to Phone Info screen.
Enable the product code box in the right corner.
Change the number there to N73 ME product code number 0529835 into that product code box and then click that enable box.
(note your original N73 product code up, in case if you need it again).

5) Then click WRITE, and in few seconds click READ, and you’ll see that your phones product code has changed.
6) Then exit NSS and start NSU and follow the steps.
7) Wait for your mobile to update. This will take some time the firmware is about 60mb+ to download.

Step 2 : Update with Nokia Software Update (like usual)
——————————————————–

1. Launch Nokia Software Update and let it run its update!

PS: It’s 67mb worth of downloading. so it’s going to take a while. Make sure your mobile is charged!

The snakes game is somehow missing from the update - So if you miss it, here’s the link to download it back. [Get it from - http://europe.nokia.com/A4323689 ]
It’s the N95 page but will work for your newly flashed Nokia N73.

Enjoy your new full featured Nokia N73!

UPDATE! : Now you can skip Step 1! Just update your firmware via the NSU as Nokia as released it for the general public already! Make sure the firmware is 4.07.xxx.xxx

Listening to my music wirelessly (via Bluetooth - Motorola S9)!
July 3rd, 2007 by Optimus
Here’s the thing, I have always wanted to have a wireless way of listening to music ever since Bluetooth came about.More than a year ago, I got a i-Tech R35 headset that came with the 3rd Gen Ipod connector.. then sometime last year I got a 2nd hand black 4gb Nano to replace my 30gb one. Which I also eventually got the iTech Bluecon connector for it.

Now the Motorola S9 was brought to my attention from my best buddy and since we have been trying to hunt it down in Singapore. Shipping from US was a possibility but we got news that Motorola was giving it out as part of the Z6 phone bundle for a limited time.

I even went to my usual 2nd phone shops to try to see if I can get a deal out of it. No luck there.. but one of the sales guy mentioned that he had customers who got the phone and wanted to sell his S9. No contact number was left.. so again no luck…

Then out of pure luck, I searched Hardwarezone.com.sg and found a seller for the S9! Wohoo! After a few days, I managed to meet up with him and bought it on the spot!

The seller was kind enough to allow me to test it out completely before buying.. I managed to get it to work with my N73 (via MSI Blueplayer) but couldn’t get my Bluecon dongle for Nano set to work.

Trick to extend your NOKIA battery life

1. Turn off your Bluetooth
We find Bluetooth to be the most power hungry application; turn it off when you don’t use it

2. Disable sounds and vibrating alert
You don’t really need keypad tones to be on, do you? What about vibrating? It is surely useful on the meetings or in a cinema but most of time you’ll do just fine without it; I usually set up a vibrating profile to be used in places like cinema or theatre and in all other profiles I have vibrating turned off

3. Brightness
Lower the brightness of your screen; not too low, otherwise you’ll destroy your vision

4. Setting the Power saver time-out and the Light time-out to the low values will help too (you’ll find them in the display settings)

5. If you are not using an application switch it off
You’ll get a list of all active applications by long pressing the menu button; this is a general rule that can be applied to any device

6. Games
It’s fun to play games on your way to school but they are power-hungry beasts; We can’t tell you not to play games but think about your battery when you are playing

7. Turn off your phone when you don’t use it
We know that for many of you this is not an option and I’m not sure if turning it off and on is even good for your battery but I heard this tip from so many people that I just had to mention it

The JAMES BOND Trick

If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated.

Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute".

Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it.

The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.

Firmware upgrade
Always start by upgrading the firmware to the latest version. Besides fixing bugs, the firmware also provides new features. In the version that I upgraded to, I got A-GPS (Assisted GPS) which cut the GPS lock-in time in half. You can upgrade the firmware by using the Nokia Software Updater.

Map loader
Use the Nokia Map Loader to download maps and voices for the GPS.
Tip: For some reason this application will fail when it start up if you're behind a proxy. You'll get an error saying "An unexpected error occurred.". This fix is to disable your proxy and try again.

Nokia PC Suite
With Nokia PC Suite, you can connect your phone to a PC and access mobile content as if the phone and the PC were one.

Mail for Exchange
If you're using Exchange for the corporate email, you should install the Mail for Exchange application. This will provide you with access to your Exchange mailbox. It also features push email. This way you dont have to check for emails. The email are pushed to your phone the second they arrive at your mailbox. Very handy. I've set it up so that it doesn't push any emails in the weekends.
Tip: The application doesn't work with the normal "TDC WAP 3G+GPRS" setting, since it uses a proxy. You have go use a non proxy setting. You can get the TDC non proxy setting by going here and choose the "internet" setting.

Other cool software
Sports Tracker from the Nokia Beta Labs
Sports Tracker is a GPS based activity tracker. Information such as speed, distance and time are automatically stored to your training diary.

Opera Mini
Even though I'm a huge Mozilla fan, I always install the Opera Mini browser in my mobile phone. You can install Opera Mini using a SMS Link.

Nokia Mobile Search
Nokia Mobile Search software gives your Nokia phone a powerful, fast way to access local information, websites, and images. It also searches for messages and other files right in your phone.

RSS Reader
Even though that it's almost impossible to find, the Nokia N95 actually has a RSS reader build in to it. You first have to use the browser to find the website that has the RSS site. Then you subscribe to the site RSS feed. Read more about tweaking the look of the RSS feeds.

Conversation
I haven't used it yet, but the Conversation application looks promising. Conversation is a messaging application that allows you to follow your conversations, organized by individual contacts. In addition, the application provides an easy way for replying to messages, and to continue the conversations.

Flickr
You can save all your pictures to your Flickr account. Remember you have to use this page to get it work. You cant use your normal Flickr username/password.

NOKIA SIM-LOCK Checks

If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check this because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you bought your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that they both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone is locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.
This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.

Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR) :
Enhanced Full Rate will give you much better sound quality when you enable it. The new Enhanced Full Rate CODEC adopted by GSM uses the Algebraic Code Excitation Linear Prediction compression technology. This technology allows for much greater voice quality in the same number of bits as the older Full Rate CODEC. The older technology was called LPC-RPE (Linear Prediction Coding with Regular Pulse Excitation). Both operate at 13 kilobits.(but you take up more space on the network, so they can charge you more). Also this improves call quality but decreases battery life by about 5%.

EFR will be activated after a reboot of the phone (consumes more power).
*3370#

EFR will be switched off after a reboot of the phone.
#3370#

Half Rate Codec (HR):
